Have A Healthy Holiday
This time of year can be lovely with holiday lights, pristine snowfalls and the spirit of goodwill in the air. But it’s also a time of stress for many of us.
There is work to do, and parties to attend or presents to buy and cards to send. Add all of this to the usual activity of our day-to-day lives – and it can become overwhelming.
Practicing self-care might be the most important gift you give yourself – and others during this busy season:
Sleep.
Most healthy adults need 7.5 – 9 hours of sleep per night and even minimal sleep loss can affect your energy, mood and ability to handle stress.
If you haven’t already, get your flu shot. Flu causes millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and numerous deaths each year
Be mindful of what you’re eating and drinking. It’s OK to indulge a little – but try to minimize sugar and get enough protein.
It’s tempting to skip the workout when there is so much that has to be done, but do your body a favor and keep up your exercise routine. If you don’t have a regular exercise routine, talk to your doctor about getting started on one.
Carry disinfecting wipes and use them when traveling or shopping – or anytime you’re in a public area.
Schedule down time. Turn off the electronics and spend some time reading or napping or walking in nature.
Try not to get overwhelmed. Some parties might not get attended – or some cookies might not get baked — but none of us has to be a Super Hero. Focus on the spirit of the season and enjoy the people you love.
Wishing You An Abundance of Joy & Good Health this Season
