Is a Virtual Visit Right for You?

Monday, April 13th, 2020

We are open and we have enhanced our already-outstanding infection control practices to keep our patients and our employees safe.

And, as a new service we have added telehealth and video visits as an option for patients with certain health concerns.

Is A Virtual Visit Right For You?

We understand that you are busy, or concerned about potential exposure to other illnesses, so we’ve implemented virtual visits to accommodate patients when possible.

If you are interested in a “virtual visit” call us at 952.926.6489. Our triage team will determine if a video visit or telehealth visit is appropriate for you.

What To Expect

If you are scheduled for a video visit, watch your email inbox at the time of your visit. We’ll send a link for you to click and join your “waiting room”. If you don’t see an email from us, check your Spam folder, and if there is still no email from us, please call us: 952-926-6489.

Once you have clicked on the link, a nurse will greet you, gather some relevant information, and start the virtual visit on behalf of your provider.

Next, your provider will join you via the video link for your appointment.

It’s a good idea to make sure that your computer’s camera and microphone are active prior to the video visit, and keep your phone handy just in case we have trouble with our video connection!

It is our preference is to schedule all virtual visits as a video visit, but we recognize that some of our patients don’t have access to video technology. In these situations, we may be able to complete a visit over the phone as a “telehealth visit”.

The following are some examples of appointments
that may be appropriate for a virtual visit:

  • anxiety, depression, and some mental health issues
  • ADHD follow-up
  • hospital or emergency room follow-up
  • some medication refills
  • sleep issues
  • “should I come into the office?” questions

It’s Important To Understand

On occasion your provider may ask you to come to the office for bloodwork soon after your virtual visit. Or, your provider might suggest that in-person visit is required in order to fully assess and evaluate your condition. It is our goal and commitment to help you be as healthy as possible.

Virtual visits will be billed similar to office visits per your insurance plan. This means that deductibles, copays, and coinsurance will apply. There has been some easing of the telehealth regulations during the Covid 19 pandemic which has helped us to offer this service.

An in-person office visit remains the gold standard for patient care.  A physical exam gives us important information about your health. For some illnesses, injuries, and follow up visits, a physical exam is an essential part of our ability to provide you with the care you need and deserve.
Our phones are answered 24/7/365.
If you have questions, concerns or are unwell, please call us at 952-926-6489, or use our patient portal to message your provider.

Helping people of all ages get healthy and stay healthy is our passion and our privilege.
Thank you for choosing Edina Sports + Family Medicine to be your health care provider.
